As is often the case I was intrigued by the daily reading in Jesus Calling by Sarah Young today. It is uncanny how the daily readings can so easily be applied to the circumstances of the day!
She writes, “You would like to see a map, showing all the twists and turns of your journey. You’d feel more prepared if you could somehow visualize what is on the road ahead.”
Yes! I would love to see a map of the future … or at least I think I would. Just a few years ago, I never would have thought I’d be living in Texas … and loving on grandsons!
And now, as my dear husband and I embark on the senior years … would I live differently today if I could see what tomorrow holds?
This is the life lesson I want to conquer … and want to pass on to those in the prime of youth … live in the PRESENT! Don’t wish your life away! Instead, find joy in this day …
… this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
That doesn’t mean squander your savings; it doesn’t mean don’t plan for a tomorrow. But what it does mean is stop, today, and enjoy the blessings that surround you. Look … really see … what is in today’s path! And exercise faith for the future. A favorite hymn says it wisely …
I don’t know about tomorrow;
I just live from day to day.
I don’t borrow from its sunshine
For its skies may turn to grey.
I don’t worry o’er the future,
For I know what Jesus said.
And today I’ll walk beside Him,
For He knows what is ahead.
Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.

A favorite Psalm says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” As we lean in close in our relationship with Jesus, his word lights our path. Have you used a flashlight, or even a lantern when walking at night? You can’t see very far … only the next few steps. In that beam of light you can see clearly all that is essential for that moment!
In Jesus Calling, Sarah Young goes on to say in today’s devotional … Jesus does not show us what is on the road ahead, but he does thoroughly equip us for the journey!
Today … I’m enjoying the gifts of the present! And I’m holding on to the one who leads me into my future!
