I read this weekend, “A thankful mind-set does not entail a denial of reality with its plethora of problems.”
We all experience problems in life! A dear 4 year-old is having some difficulty with wearing shoes – seems like a sensory issue. He said today, “Santa will still bring me a present, won’t he?” The little one had just spent several minutes fussing, crying, kicking because his shoes didn’t feel right. He added, “Santa knows that I have a problem with my shoes, right? It’s just a problem. It’s not a bad thing.” I am so thankful for these moments with the little ones. They experience problems and they don’t have tools to deal with them. So they cry, lash out against the problems. The little one needed reassurance, he is loved completely, and yes, Santa does know all about the problem!
And so, when we are in the midst of adult problems, we need to remember, that nothing separates us from the love of the Father. We can rest secure in his love, in his care for us. He knows all about the problems! And he does not withhold grace in the midst of them!
The Psalmist said, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
The invitation was spoken years ago, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
For this invitation and promise I am grateful!
Well said! I am so thankful he understands our problems and loves us! Have a great Thanksgiving with your family!
Thank you, Joy! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
