I love to walk. I love to walk our neighborhood, the trails nearby, but I especially love walking on the beach.
There is a certain calmness in walking. I don’t know if it is the act of walking itself or if it is being outside. I have to admit walking on a treadmill is not as satisfying!
Walking clears the mind – promoting creativity and problem solving.
It lightens mood.
It even eases pain.
Science says it strengthens the immune system.
And it strengthens bones.
Of course, it helps with weight management and has numerous other health benefits.
Walking may be one of the more underrated exercises.
“In our culture of overwork, burnout, and exhaustion, in which we’re connected and distracted 24/7 from most things that are truly important in our lives, how do we tap into our creativity, our wisdom, our capacity for wonder, our well-being and our ability to connect with what we really value? It is solved by walking!”

I find it interesting that the Scripture addresses walking also – giving us walking instructions! I list a few of them …
- Walk properly – Romans 13:13
- Walk by faith – 2 Corinthians 5:7
- Walk by the Spirit – Galatians 5:16
- Walk in love – Ephesians 5:2
- Walk in the light – Ephesians 5:8
- Walk worthy – Colossians 1:10
- Walk in him – Colossians 2:6
I love this word picture from Isaiah 40 … “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
“Walking is man’s best medicine!” (Hippocrates)
