This morning I noticed the daffodils. Their bright sunshiny color caught my eye. They brought a smile to my face … forthtelling spring is near … and reminding me of the new life that is mine each day.
Jesus, in Luke’s gospel, reminds us … consider how the lilies grow. Daffodils have the same lineage as lilies. Lilies and daffodils … they require the sunlight … and in that sunlight they grow, multiply, express the glory of their creator, and bring joy!
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
The thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
~ William Wordsworth
What wealth the show to me had brought … this morning … opportunity for a moment … a moment of stillness, in that stillness the dancing … the dancing of daffodils … and of my spirit … renewed by the promise of spring!
A house with daffodils in it is a house lit up, whether or no the sun be shining outside. ~A. A. Milne
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. ~1 John 1:5
I love this poem. We’re covered with snow but this makes me look forward to the colors to come.
Lovely post. Very uplifting…
