I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Revelation 19:11 – 16
Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! He has absolute dominion over His creation! All rulers, powers, dominions will succumb to his authority, when every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
Isaiah 40:21 – 23
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.
Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords because God exalted Him! God exalted Jesus “to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name” because He humbled Himself, became “obedient to death, even death on the cross.” (Philippians 2:8-9)
That power is the same as the mighty strength [God] exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Ephesians 1:19b-23
Paul writes to the Colossians, “your life is now hidden with Christ in God!” Because our lives are hidden in Him, our victory, our success is assured because He is the King! And as King, His steadfast love is forever!
Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 117:1-2
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven! And there He intercedes for you and for me. Imagine – the King, the Lord … while sustaining all things, He loves us and prays for us!
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him,
Hebrews 7:25
because he always lives to intercede for them.
Today is Epiphany, a celebration in the Orthodox church of the birth of Christ, and specifically the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child. With Epiphany, the twelve days of Christmas comes to an end.
Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne.
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless king
through all eternity.Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o’er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save;
his glories now we sing
who died and rose on high,
who died eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.Crown him the Lord of love;
behold his hands and side,
rich wounds, yet visible above,
in beauty glorified;
no angels in the sky
can fully bear that sight,
but downward bends their burning eye
at mysteries so bright.Crown him the Lord of years,
Matthew Bridges, 1851
the potentate of time,
creator of the rolling spheres,
ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
for thou hast died for me;
thy praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.
As you pray today, imagine the King praying for you – because He is! Allow Him to declare once again His great love for you and fill you with abundant peace!
