I captured this picture of a jacket hanging on bare branches some time ago. That lost jacket captured my imagination. I began to think about objects lost. But then I was reminded that if we are not careful, we can also lose sight of the present.
The jacket hanging on bare branches speaks of life lost in the living, barren, stark, lonely.
On Instagram, I see all sorts of “new year” ideas. Some of them are about how to accomplish daily chores with greater ease. No doubt there are days we wish those chores away. But even in the everyday chores, the dishes, the laundry, the preparation of meals, the running of errands, God is there. I don’t have to invite his presence into the moment, I only need to open up my mind and heart to the realization that he’s there. He is participating, celebrating the ordinariness of life with me.
So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (AMPC)
It would be easy to wish one’s life away, to live in the future constantly. Maybe you’ve thought, “When this happens, then I will … .” But that moment never seems to come, and we risk losing so many “today” moments!
Today, I choose to live in the present, the gift of this ordinary moment.
His divine power has given us everything we need to experience life and to reflect God’s true nature through the knowledge of the One who called us by His glory and virtue.
2 Peter 1:3 (Voice)
