The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

In the early morning hours, our house is quiet and dark.
I turn on the Christmas lights, and the darkness is pushed out of the room.
I pause for just a few minutes to consider the advent journey.
If, as Herod, we fill our lives with things, and again with things…
If we consider ourselves so unimportant that we must fill every moment of our lives with action,
when will we have the time to make the long, slow journey across the desert as did the Magi?
Or sit and watch the stars as did the shepherds?
Or brood over the coming of the child as did Mary?
For each of us, there is a desert to travel. A star to discover.
And a being within ourselves to bring to life.

The quiet waiting is not just for the baby or the second coming … but it’s a centering of my heart to allow the Lord of Christmas to do His work in me even today!
I’m a traveler needing his direction.
The LORD your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.

May I joyfully be consumed today in quietness and rest …
