On the afternoon drive home, I listened to NPR report that the approval ratings for Congress, our President, both political parties are at an all time low.
And just this morning I heard a stirring reading of the Gettysburg address. It is the 150th birthday of that proclamation!
I was overwhelmed with gratitude as I heard the words, “It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work!” That unfinished work is freedom!
Our country is in a mess; it is far from perfect. I am dismayed at the very least in various leaders almost daily. AND yet, I am grateful for the freedoms we enjoy … desire to see them protected!
I pray with Lincoln’s words, that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth!
My country, ’tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims’ pride, From ev’ry mountainside Let freedom ring!
Our fathers’ God to Thee, Author of liberty, To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright, With freedom’s holy light, Protect us by Thy might, Great God our King.
