Tomorrow we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent, and light the candle of Love!
As I have been thinking about Christmas this week, I was reminded of the poetry of Christina Rossetti. She wrote,
Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, Love Divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Star and Angels gave the sign.
Worship we the Godhead,
Love Incarnate, Love Divine;
Worship we our Jesus:
But wherewith for sacred sign?
Love shall be our token,
Love be yours and love be mine,
Love to God and all men,
Love for plea and gift and sign.
We know that God is love by his very nature and because of that, he demonstrates his love toward us. The most recognizable verse in the Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Christmas time … God gave us his one and only Son … given to the world to as our Savior. Christmas time … the precursor to Easter … love came down at Christmas!
Charles Wesley also wrote about “love divine” … a favorite hymn …
Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heaven to earth come down;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling;
All thy faithful mercies crown!
Jesus, Thou art all compassion,
Pure unbounded love Thou art;
Visit us with Thy salvation;
Enter every trembling heart.
I’m praying today … thanking God that He indeed is love! My desire is to be a conduit of his love … “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
