It’s been over a month since I shared posts, podcasts, and pieces that have captured my attention.
My Writing
Writing as a way to spend time devotionally during Lent has been a full-time focus. If you want to read any of the Lent pieces, my posts drop daily. Here are links to a few shared posts from the past 12 days:
- Create In Me a Pure Heart was the first piece.
- I published A Different Kind of Rest on the first Sunday of Lent.
- The Bread that Satisfies has had more viewers than the other posts.
The Quiet Collection: Lent
As part of my quiet time, I listen to the Lent devotional published by Emily P. Freeman in her app, The Quiet Collection. She created a 48-day series for Lent, with each devotional lasting just four minutes. The content is inspirational, thoughtful, and thought-provoking. You can listen to the first episode in its entirety here, and I’m sure you can still purchase the collection.
Podcasts on Prayer
The Gospel Coalition, featuring Courtney Doctor and Melissa Kruger, has launched a new podcast called The Deep Dish. The first two episodes have been outstanding. In each episode, Courtney and Melissa interview a different guest. The inaugural episode features an interview with Jen Wilkin, discussing discipleship. The second episode focuses on prayer with Nancy Guthrie, and I highly recommend checking it out!
If prayer is an area of growth for you, I also highly recommend Emily Freeman’s latest episode of her podcast, The Next Right Thing, episode 358, Pray However You Are Able.
The Liturgical Year
If you are like me and don’t know a whole lot about the liturgical year, I highly recommend following my dear friend Ashley. She and her husband minister in Santa Rosa County at Apostles-By-The-Sea. She is committed to helping all of us understand the church year, its historical background, and how to celebrate in meaningful and simple ways in our homes. Check out her Substack, The Lilturgical Home.
Audio Books
I’ve done a little bit of fun reading – actually listening. I listened to Save Me the Plums: My Gourmet Memoir by Ruth Reichl. She was food critic turned Gourmet Magazine editor and her story chronicles her growth and expeirences as an editor. I also listened to Feeding the Soul (Because It’s My Business): Finding Our Way to Joy, Love, and Freedom by Tabitha Brown. Her book is rich with personal stories and inspirational quotes. Both authors read their own books, which doubles the fun!
Recipes
Last, I want to mention four recipes I made recently that we loved!
- Jack Allen’s pimento cheese is a delightful treat when you visit the local restaurant, but you can find the recipe online! Making your own pimento cheese is easy and delicious.
- We love chicken salad, and this particular recipe is our favorite! It’s simple to prepare—I always start with a rotisserie chicken from Costco.
- Recently, we had a birthday dinner and decided to grill hamburgers. I wanted a tasty side dish but didn’t want to go with the usual French fries or potato salad, so I pulled out an old recipe for a hash brown casserole. Yum!
- Lastly, I made some Irish soda bread for St. Patrick’s Day, and it turned out great. Be sure to check out this recipe for easy homemade bread!
