The pastor spoke from Revelation 21 – 22 today. He reminded us as Matthew says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” As he spoke, tears escaped my eyes. Why … why tears when thinking about Heaven? So many things come to mind …
- I miss my mom … she was an awesome lady! I know she is enjoying Heaven today! I think about how much fun she would have playing with Colin and Dylan … and yet, I know she is not sad … and in some way, she is able to connect with them.
- I am amazed that the God of the Universe cares enough about me to open the gates of Heaven for me! The words of the hymn, “Jesus paid it all! All to him I owe,” ring in my ears!
- The future reality of Heaven moves my soul ! “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth … I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God’ … He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’ ” (Revelation 21:1-5)
And so my “leaky eyes,” the tears that escape down my cheeks … they embarrass me … a love/hate relationship … wish I had dry eyes … and yet those tears remind me of core beliefs!
Some time ago I included this quote in a blog … “Emotions are to the heart what tears are to the eye, a window to the essence of our soul, the fabric of our consciousness. Tears of joy, tears of pain, tears of frustration and despair, tears of love and exaltation, one by one, they weave the mosaic of our life. When we learn to cherish each and every one of them, honor their truth and hold them in the center of our heart with undivided attention, we allow them to unfold and deliver the quiet magic of the insights they carry.” ~ Genviev Martin-Bernard
And then this one … “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.” ~ Washington Irving
My prayer … if not for dry eyes, then for tears that are sacred – a wellspring overflowing with love, joy, peace, passion … and storing up treasures that reflect the divine!
