We have 2 weeks before Winter Break! One more week of teaching and learning … then a week of EXAMS.
One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is to catch up on my reading. This fall I’ve spent quite a bit of time in blogging and reading blogs. I am enjoying getting acquainted with amazing math teachers who share their thoughts and resources! During the holidays, though, I need time to feed the “whole” me! I’ve chosen 3 books so far to read … and I hope that I will find new inspiration and refreshment in reading them.
Thomas Moore is a favorite inspirational author. I especially enjoyed reading his book, The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life. The book, Original Self, is 50 meditations. I might not get to read all of them in our 2 short weeks of vacation but I hope to have time to read a few and maybe even write reflectively.
A second title I’ve chosen is Foolsgold: Making Something from Nothing and Freeing Your Creative Process by Susan Wooldridge. Not too long ago I read her book entitled Poemcrazy: Freeing Your Life with Words and fully enjoyed it. I like to dabble in writing and she had excellent ideas! In Foolsgold, she writes, “The transforming state of being – the living flow – is what we’re seeking, whether we know it or not. … it’s not the end product we want, mere gold, it’s the enlivening discoveries and delight we experience along the way. Foolsgold.” I’m hoping to find inspiration for loosening my creative flow in her writings!
Last, I ran across an interesting quote one day attributed to a particular author/novel. I decided to find the novel and read it. It’s The Tentmaker by Michelle Blake. I had to purchase a used copy. I don’t know what attracted me to this book other than the quote. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
I may hunt up something else to read as well … not sure … definitely looking forward to some “drop everything and read” time in my life!
What are you reading??
